UASF UPDATES #7 – 12.18.20
On behalf of UASF, we want to wish all of you a very happy and healthy winter break. Please take time to rest and enjoy your time off. Try to disconnect and rest your eyes, wrists, fingers, etc.!
LETTER FROM DR. MATTHEWS TO LABOR PARTNERS-SCHOOLS NOT OPENING 1/25
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1
You should have all received this letter from the District earlier today. The Unions of SFUSD met today to discuss this. We believe that now that an emergency alert for a stay-at-home order has gone out to all counties, it is unclear why the District is attributing the inability to open schools to labor unions. You will see a reference for SF to be in the Orange tier which is actually the same tier that several other Bay Area Districts (OUSD and WCCC for example) are using for a safe return to in-person learning. Jolie and Joan will be joining representatives with other Unions of SFUSD for a meet and confer on December 23rd.

UASF MEETINGS WITH DISTRICT LEADERSHIP
12.16.20-Caroline met with Dr. Matthews and the UASF Officers and EDs met with the Superintendent and his Leadership Team for our monthly meetings. One of the topics we discussed included the Wednesday meetings with the Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent and site leaders and how they have influenced policy decisions. The Superintendent stated that the Policy Committee meets right after the meeting with site leaders and the first thing they discuss is questions and input from the site leaders. Know that your presence and voice are important at these meetings primarily focusing on the opening of in-person learning. UASF also asked if they could have some future meetings, especially for secondary site leaders to have time to hear from the Superintendent and ask questions.
12.17.20-The EDs met with Deputy Ford Morthel for our monthly meeting and we discussed the process for classroom and non-classroom certificated evaluations and support needed for Wave Site Leaders. We shared some of the recent UASF survey data regarding returning to sites, support site leaders need to return to in-person learning and what’s most important to the Wave site leaders as they return to in-person learning.
